Module 1: The Initial Consultation
This module is presented as a 96 page e-book, which is presented with over 55 videos, and details the essential history taking and examination procedures involved in the paediatric initial consultation.
This e-book contains the following four sections:
- The Initial Consultation
- Examination of the Baby
- Examination of the Toddler and Older Child
- Following the Examination
The Initial Consultation
In this section, we explore the specific and very important initial procedures and protocols involved in the child’s first visit. These include:
- First contact with the parents
- The patient case history form
- Essential pre-consultation procedures
- Greeting the parents
- Taking the patient history
- Examining with confidence.
This information is vital grounding for the rest of the modules included in this program.
Examination of the Baby
This section explores in detail the examination of that age group which both new graduate and experienced chiropractors often find very challenging—the neonate and baby. These examination procedures include the:
- Neurological examination
- Orthopaedic examination
- Spinal examination
(Cranial examination and adjustment procedures are covered in Module 2)
Also included is a list of those age specific milestones which, as a paediatric practitioner, are important to you when examining the paediatric patient.
Examination of the Toddler and Older Child
All children present their own unique individual challenges, but this particular age group is frequently more of a challenge than most, both to examine, as well as to adjust, even for the most experienced chiropractor. The examination procedures presented in this section once again include the:
- Neurological examination
- Orthopaedic examination
- Spinal examination
(Cranial examination and adjustment procedures are covered in Module 2)
Following the Examination
This section addresses the all-important protocols and procedures involved in the closing of your initial consultation with the paediatric patient, (and the parents). The child’s first visit to your practice is your first (and in some cases your last) opportunity to connect with the child as well as with the parents. Closing the initial visit with the parents – and the child – in an effective and impacting manner, is one of the many essential skill areas which, as a family wellness practitioner, you need to develop, to ensure the best clinical outcome for the child.
This module is accredited for 25 CPD Hours.
